MIS 336: Microsoft Word Day 2 (Last BLog)

Today is the last day of working on our assignments for this class. I completed my last two assignments for Word, and am currently in the process of completing my last blog. The work that i've came across and completed during the duration of this class has been extremely beneficial to my computer knowledge, and I believe that it will assist me in furthering my college education in more ways than one. Out of all the sections, I enjoyed Access the most, because I've never used it before. It feels good to have a basic understanding of this program. I can now say that I actually know how to use every program within Microsoft Office correctly. This class was short, but filled with knowledge. I am very privileged to have been able to take and excel in this summer school course with Dr. Jackson.

MIS 336: Microsoft Word Day 2

During this class, we continued to work on assignments for Microsoft Word. These assignments began to require more typing to do the work. That was honestly the hardest part, which actually really wasn't hard. While doing these assignments, we were also reviewing the Access section of the class, so we could be properly prepared for the final. There was a lot of information that was reviewed from Access that helped me further understand that section. At the end of this class I only had two assignments remaining to complete before I completed all of the work for the class. Hopefully all of the review that was done over the last two days was enough for me to pass this final.

MIS 336: Microsoft Word

The first day of word was a lot more relaxed than the first day of the previous sections. This is because everyone has used microsoft word in previous classes. Therfore they are more familiar with this section than any other. During this class, we began review for the final on thursday. We reviewed Excel for about an hour, then continued working on our work for word. While during work for word, I completed a lot of work that asked me to use borders or templates. This was fortunate for me, because I usually don't use these features often.

Powerpoint Day 4

There wasn't much to do on the last day of powerpoint, because we weren't given a third chapter to complete in this section. Therefore there were four less assignments. Some students were given time to complete other work for the section, while others worked ahead and did work for Microsoft Word.

Powerpoint Day 3

During this class, I was able to finish catching up on the work that i needed to complete from the previous days. I believe that the memorial day break kind of put me behind a little, because I used it as a break day, but we really had work that was due as well. Powerpoint is a program that I'm familiar with, so it isn't as stressful as the first two chapters.

Powerpoint day 2

In class today, we went over the presentation that Dr. Jackson created. He presented a presentation that dealt with how you can go about getting your doctorate, and what it all entails. After this was completed, we were given time to do the work that is due for the week. This is becasue we already know the work that needs to be done in this section.

Powerpoint day 1

Yesterday was actually Memorial day, so we didnt have class, which means that we didnt have any work. WRONG! We still had assignments that had to be completed. Fotunately, we started on powerpoint, which means we all are pretty familiar with it by this time in our college careers. The first three assignments weren't bad at all. Lets see how difficult powerpoint can become for us!

Access day 4

In class on Thursday, we were given a quiz over access. I wasn't expecting it to take as long as it did, but i took the entire class to complete. There is always a way to make anything challenging. Hopefully i recieved a decent grade from the quiz. The section of the class dealing with access was a learning experience as always.

MIS 336: Access day 3

In class today, we were given time to make up work for the access week. Doing this was very beneficial for me. It gave me the opportunity to review procedures that I need to know for the upcoming quiz over access. After todays class, i feel well prepared for the quiz tomorrow.

MIS 336 Access day 2

Today in class we are learning about queries. A query is what allows you to determine what columns you want to choose. It is defined in the book as a question presented in a way that access can process it. Queries allow you to create certain reports. Also, we learned how to join two tables together. In the query, there is a design view and a datasheet view that we can refer to. After you join the tables, then you can create a query. In order to make this possible, you must show a relationship between the tables using the primary key. A rule of normalization that we learned tonight is that is topic should have it own table. There should be a table category for first name, and one for last name. They two shouldn't be in the same column. It uses sequel language behind the screen to carry out and execute the question. We learned that http://www.w3schools.com/ allows us to learn more on sequel language. We were able to set certain criteria to find out specific information for certain clients in a database that we created. A wildcard is a symbol that represents any collection of charcters. The question mark is also a wildcard that represents an individual character. The parameter allows you to inout how you want the criteria. The comparison operators that we learned in this class were (<,>,>=,<= and NOT). AND and Or are considered the compoun criteria

Week 2:Access day one

Today in class, we were introduced to Access. We learned that Access is used to create, edit, update data in a database. The term database describes a collection of data organized in a manner that allows access, retrieval and use of that data. We learned that the primary key is the unique identifier. The rows in Access are called records, and the columns are called fields. While entering in data in the columns, we learned how to view the data in design view and in datasheet view. In the design view is where you create the structure od your datasheet. You can also change the data type in this area. We were also able to learn how to insert a form and a report of the data that we entered.

MIS 336 Week1: Excel day one

The first day of class to my understanding was full of work and completing in class projects. While in class the first day, we learn how to insert data into certain cells. The most important thing that was taught the first day was learning how to format cells. This included the backgroung color, and how to insert a graph. We also learned the basics of the status bar, which has several differnt views.

MIS class 4

In this class we started of talking about how you can freeze certain columns. You can freeze certain columns by going tothe view pane on the toolbar and go to freeze pane. We also discovered how you can use the NOW formula, that gives you the date and time that is on your computer system. The What-If analysis was also introduced. It allows you to make assumptions, and it includes greater-than and less-than formulas. By right clicking onthe cell and going to format cells and clicking on alignment, you can change the direction of your words. Three types of cell referneces were introduced in this chapter of excel. Absolute cell reference, mixed reference, and relative cell reference are the three. The if statements are introduced as well. In order to use them, use must know the logic of the statement, and the comparison operators (=,<,>,<>,>=,<=). The first part of an if statement is the logical test, then you also must know the value (true or false). A nested if function is if the if statement includes yet another if function.

Class 3: Working on Excel labs

Today in class, we were given time to work on our labs and other course work. While doing my course work today,k i learned how to create and input a bar graph. I was also able to create a spreadsheet today off of little information in a cases and places assignment in chapter two. it required me to input formulas on my own, without much guidance. This actually helped me become more confident in doing them on my own. This cases and places was about different products like candy, cookie dough, flower bulbs and etc during a fundraiser. A new equation that I had to enter was (cost per unit/1-margin). This required me to use order of operations.

Class 2: Functions, Formulas, Formatting and Web Queries

This chapter introduces how we are suppossed to use the order of operations while doing arithmetic in excel. During class I learned that pressing alt + enter, it allows me to stack my words inside one cell. Today in class, we made the spreadsheet for the Silver dollar Stock Club. While doing this, we used the fill handle tool to reach the initial cost for the entire column. It automatically multiplies two columns. It copies the previous equation used. The '=' sign must come first in your equation before you can trigger your formula. We also discussed how using Autosum, automatically sums up the total for an entire column. When an assignment uses 'highest', it really means MAX. We learned how to use the Merge and Center key, which centers the row that you choose. We also used the Cell Styles selection, which allows you to fromat a specific heading. To add some style to the spreadsheet, we learned how to use the fill button (which changes the background color). In this chapter we were also taught how to center a column by using the alignment feature, how to chnage the format of the date, by clicking on date, then more selections.
